Rantings and ravings from an admitted fan (as in fanatic!) of the Boston Red Sox. Updated only occasionally, but with my take on recent developments in Red Sox Nation. Updated more frequently during the end of the regular season and playoffs (hopefully).

Home opener

Tremendous home opener today at Fenway.

Josh Beckett overcame a shaky first inning to pitch a 3-hitter. Big Papi went yard.  Mike Lowell banged out four hits. And the Sox raised their record to 6-1 on this young season with their fifth straight win.  Life is good.

But the highlight, for me, had to be about the sixth inning (or seventh, I forget) when the following scenario occurred during the NESN broadcast.

The camera is showing Wally the Green Monster, the Sox mascot that everyone usually ignores, and the announcers (Don Orsillo and Jerry Remy) are highlighting some of the changes for the new 2006 season. One of the changes is that they’ve made Wally rotund (like 100 pounds heavier), and he now looks more like the Philly Phanatic than last year’s green Elmo.  Wally still sucks, so sometimes change is, well, just change. But as Orsillo and Remy are making wisecracks, RemDog finally quips: “Fat and stupid is no way to go through life, Wally.”  Any telecast that includes a vague “Animal House” reference is ok by me.

Indeed, life is good…
